The Design Story
ghul-milGhul-MilTwo friends, Rambabu and Ramkuwar, came together to create this Manchaha rug. What began with a structured, uniform pattern soon transformed into an explosion of creativity as their ideas started to flow freely. Ramkuwar sat on the left side of the loom, and Rambabu on the right—just as they always have. “It was Rambabu who introduced me to weaving,” Ramkuwar shares, “and since then, we’ve always been by each other’s side. Hamara uthna-baithna, khaana-peena sab ek saath hota hai.” (From eating together to hanging out, our whole day just goes side by side). This rug is a reflection of their personalities and the beautiful bond they share. Ramkuwar started by weaving decorative patterns inspired by everyday elements like clothes, bedsheets, and curtains around him. Using the same colors, Rambabu responded with a fluid, wavy design that looked as if he had taken Ramkuwar’s patterns and stirred them like paint. Impressed by his friend’s creativity, Ramkuwar decided to blend his designs into Rambabu’s flowing motifs, allowing the waves to ripple back into his side of the rug. In doing so, they let their styles intertwine, effortlessly and without ego. Ghul-Mil is a celebration of their friendship, an expression of a bond that flows from one heart to another.
