The inspiration for Kolam is the ritualistic folk art of creating patterns from rice flour at the entrances of homes in South India. While preserving the sacrosanct symmetry in individual forms, the designers broke free from traditional rules and created unexpected and joyful studies in colour and form. Richly layered and dynamic in composition, Kolam rugs are a visual delight.
