The Design Story
chemistryChemistryDurga and Kanta, the lively mother-in-law and daughter-in-law duo, named their Manchaha rug Chemistry, inspired by life at home and Durga’s love for learning. Durga’s husband, a compounder at a clinic, often shares stories about tests and medicines. Listening to him, she jokes that she has unofficially studied medicine too. As a student, chemistry was always her favorite subject. In this rug, those memories turn into motifs, shapes like chemical bonds, test tubes, and structured lines, arranged in color patches like elements coming together. Kanta followed Durga’s lead, adding her signature zigzag grid that runs steadily across the surface, grounding the design. Like chemistry itself, their styles react and blend, two generations creating something beautiful together.
