The Design Story
singhade ki fasalSinghade Ki FasalIn the quaint village of Nibaha in Uttar Pradesh, live three young women named Vinita, Shashi, and Rubee. They are surrounded by lush fields and lakes and the village is known for farming water chestnuts, which is very popular in Uttar Pradesh. The weavers in their village decided to capture this aspect of their lives in a rug. They used vibrant yellow and green colors to portray the lush water chestnut farm, complete with green leaves and flowing water fountains. The rug also features the chiraiya bird or bagula that feeds on the fishes in the water where chestnuts grow. At the bottom of the rug, the weavers included their lucky design, which they weave on every carpet. The three women joined together to weave the scene of a field, with Shashi even adding a string of upside-down roses to her imagination. The rug is called Singhade Ki Fasal, which translates to "The water chestnut harvest."
