The Design Story

mere hathon ki mehendi

Mere Hathon Ki Mehendi
Indra Devi's Manchaha "Mere Hathon Ki Mehendi," draws inspiration from her favorite design patterns found in her Mehendi art. Indra has a passion for designing Mehendi patterns on the hands of village women. Whenever there is a celebration in her village, she savors the moment and puts aside her rug weaving, as she loves the happiness and beauty that flows through her Mehendi art. Paying tribute to her favorite hobby, the patterns in Indra's Manchaha have been handcrafted, seeking inspiration by her favorite Mehendi design patterns which are intricately woven into her hand-knotted rug. The thin designs at the bottom of the rug are specifically crafted for the fingers, while the larger motifs at the top are meant for the palm and wider spaces. The intricate designs are then used for filling in the motifs. Indra puts her heart into her Mehendi and Manchaha making, displaying her creativity and passion for both.
