The Design Story
sheeshaSheeshaManbhar Devi has been weaving for over 20 years, a craft she learned from her husband, who still joins her at the loom sometimes. Though age has slowed her hands and map carpets feel difficult now, Manchaha remains her true joy, where she feels free, instinctive, and creates from her heart. In this hand-knotted carpet, she creates something remarkable: a perfectly symmetrical composition, woven entirely without a blueprint. At the top emerges an illusion, a mirror-like form that shifts as you look at it. Is the design moving inward or expanding outward? It plays gently with perspective, like a reflection that refuses to stay still. She calls this motif “Bichkanda”, center aligned. And just like its name, the rug carries a quiet balance. When you sit with it, your gaze settles. You don’t just see the balance, you feel it within.
