The Design Story
tod-jodTod-JodChaina and her mother, Santosh Devi, usually weave together, and this rug shows how their ideas build step by step. They began with flowers at the bottom as they wanted the rug to start on a fresh note. From there, Santosh added small trees along one side, keeping her part detailed and steady. Chaina moved differently. She focused on colour, mixing yarns to create changing patterns. She also likes to break the flow. So midway, she cut through the design with a bold stripe. After that shift, they both continued again. Zig-zags, diamonds, and small patterns start filling the space. The rug becomes more layered as it moves upward. At the top, they brought everything together into a tight mosaic of diamonds. The rug moves through phases — start, break, rebuild — but still holds together because they understand how to work with each other. Together, they named the Manchaha ‘Tod-Jod,’ meaning ‘Break and Rebuild.’
