The Design Story
savan ki rimjhimSavan Ki RimjhimKavita and Soniya, once sisters and now sisters-in-law, embarked on their first Manchaha journey with "Savan Ki Rimjhim" (The Monsoon Melody). This carpet stands as a great example of the tradition of craft being passed down from generation to generation, a rare occurrence in today's world. Taught by their mother, a master weaver in the company, they had learned the craft but had never woven a Manchaha together before marrying and moving to a new home. Their mother's tales and pictures of her Manchahas fueled their desire to create one. One day when Soniya went to visit her mother's place she actually saw a Manchaha in real for the first time and then the sisters installed a Manchaha loom, finally starting their art journey. It was monsoon season, the most awaited time of the year in the dry land. They noticed the tall date trees (khajoor) around them and tied a swing on one tree for their children to play. This image made its way into their Manchaha—a tree with a swing. Soniya, who loved painting during her school days, wanted to depict a scenic view of mountains and rivers, reminiscent of the paintings she used to create in her drawing books. The bright blue hue reminded her of a river, and the mountains with a flowing river soon emerged on the loom. They even wove cute fishes into the river, dreaming of visiting Kashmir one day to witness such a scene in real. The rainy clouds around them and the traditional leheriya patterns from their sarees made their creation more special. Thus, "Savan Ki Rimjhim" was born, a hand-knotted masterpiece capturing their bond, sweet memories, and dreams.
