The Design Story
rangon ki leelaRangon Ki LeelaCreated by a family of weavers—Madhuri, Khusboo, Vandana, Shailindri, and Phoolmati—Rangon Ki Leela reflects a journey of collaboration on the loom. The process began with a common theme of wavy leheriya patterns, but as the weaver’s creativity unfolded, they decided to add their personal touches. They divided colors among themselves, often bartering, compromising, and even playfully hiding yarn from one another, making their time on the loom both fun and memorable. Shailindri contributed a design inspired by the wire boundaries of agricultural fields, while another inspiration came from the curtain hanging near their loom. Adding its pattern to the rug gave them a warm sense of connection, knowing a part of their home would now become part of someone else’s. As they progressed, they ran out of bright colors and were left with soft, tonal shades. Searching for inspiration, they noticed how the sun's rays illuminated the loom at a particular hour of the day, casting beautiful patterns. They decided to capture that moment, weaving the play of sunlight into their rug. They shared that this rug took more time to complete than they expected because they used to check the rug back and forth even after weaving a single line on the loom, they were that excited to create this rug. The final creation was named Rangon Ki Leela—a celebration of the vibrant interplay of colors, light, and their shared journey as a family.
