The Design Story
pahaadi raahPahaadi RaahThis Manchaha was woven by Aarti Devi. She began with ‘leheriya’ — soft, wavy lines that move across the surface like flowing water or wind. After that, the design slowly rises into mountain forms. Layer by layer, she built the peaks the way she sees them around her village. Aarti Devi lives surrounded by mountains. For her, they are not just part of the landscape, but part of daily life. She shared how the women of the village go together to the mountains to collect wood. They walk in a group, talking, laughing, and taking small breaks along the way. She says this time feels like a small outing for them, a break from routine. The climb, the conversations, and the shared work stay with her. In this rug, the flowing leheriya lines feel like the path, and the mountains rise where their journey leads. It carries both movement and pause, just like those walks. This is how she named her Manchaha ‘Pahaadi Raah,’ meaning ‘Roads of the Mountain.’
