The Design Story
naya prayogNaya PrayogBreaking away from her usual flower and traditional wavy designs, Sayari Devi wanted to try something new in this Manchaha. This time, her thoughts went to the distant mountains and the flowing water she had grown up around. From these memories, she began weaving zig-zag patterns, giving the rug a more modern and flowing feel. Each zig-zag section is filled with new patterns that bring depth and detail into the rug. Along with the patterns, Sayari Devi paid close attention to colour. She carefully arranged different shades of yarn, letting them sit together in balance. The rug shows her willingness to experiment while staying close to what she knows. It reflects her growing confidence as a weaver, rooted in tradition, yet open to change and new ways of expression. To honour this effort, she named her Manchaha “Naya Prayog,” which means “New Experiment.”
