The Design Story
rishtey ki reshamRishtey Ki ReshamWoven by sisters-in-law Santosh and Sumitra, this Manchaha rug tells the delicate story of two women learning to walk together through life. The design is like a stitched diary, each block a window into their world. One patch carries the memory of early mornings when they sweep the courtyard together; another holds the quiet rhythm of afternoons spent cooking, side by side. The chevron lines mirror the mehendi (hena) patterns they draw on each other's palms during festivals. The soft, overlapping blocks echo the sarees they’ve draped over each other's shoulders for years—sometimes borrowed, sometimes gifted, always filled with warmth. No two patterns are identical, just like no two days in their life are the same—but all are connected, flowing into each other without a single interruption. As one begins a motif, the other completes it. Their woven diary holds no harsh lines, no jagged breaks—only gentle transitions, like their bond. The rug speaks without words, just like they often do, understanding, in sync, and silently proud of the home and life they’ve built together. And to honor this lovely bond they share, they named their rug "Rishtey Ki Resham" (Silken Bonds).
