The Design Story
nazarNazarThe term "Nazar" refers to the act of gazing. The Nazar manchaha is a beautiful collaborative piece created by Vinod and Beerbal, skilled weavers at Dausa Jail. They wove all that they gazed upon or envisioned in their minds into their hand-knotted rug. They began weaving a river using various shades of blue wool and silk yarns. While working on it, Vinod missed his wife and reminisced about their evening walks in the garden near their home. Sadly, they have now separated since he came to jail. The memories of their sweet moments appeared on the rug as a couple walking together. To express his sense of incompleteness, Vinod wove a big dry tree into the manchaha. He also included the rabbits his wife adores and plays with when they visit the park. Beerbal noticed Vinod's emotions and sadness and tried to cheer him up by weaving a falling kite, which he said would hang onto the dry tree. Vinod chuckled at Beerbal and got involved in his idea, vowing to sway the wind so much that Beerbal's kite would swing in the air forever. He wove windy clouds into the piece, and Beerbal helped him with the idea. In the end, they aptly named their collaborative creation "Nazar."
