The Design Story

bhakton ka rasta

Bhakton Ka Rasta
“Mere karm mein kahi na kahi galicha banana likha tha,” says Hariram. This quote translates to "My fate, in some way, always had weaving carpets." He says this because when he was out of jail, in the past, he used to do multiple jobs- being a farmer and a driver too. He had a driver's duty of six months in a village of Rajasthan, where he saw a loom for the very first time. It intrigued him a little; the weavers even invited him to weave along with them sometimes, but he chose to observe from a distance. And now in the confines of jail, he feels liberated through weaving, fulfilling his karma. Hariram and Chotu weaved this Manchaha rug together. Chotu, being an amateur, found comfort in Hariram’s company. While weaving this Manchaha rug, Hariram told a story of how, in addition to being a driver, he used to do many multiple jobs, one of which was building a whole way railing single-handedly to reach the Mansa Devi temple in his village. He shared how difficult it was for the labourers to reach such a height and install poles on the mountain to form a way altogether. It was just God and his passion that drove him to build it on his own. Chotu was so impressed by Hariram’s adventure stories and the challenges he faced during his youthful years. Hari’s attitude at work is also the same; if he takes on a task, he is so passionate that he drives the people around with motivation. The duo mixed each and every color with their own hands to weave this Manchaha. In this rug, they created the same way through the mountains that would take the devotees to the Mansa Devi temple. The hard work he put in building the way is reflected in the work of art he has created now. The duo named their creation “Bhakton ka Raasta”, Hindi for "The way for the devotees.”
