The Design Story
ambar zameenAmbar ZameenRekha, Bhagwati, Geeta, and Aanchi partnered together to create a beautiful hand-knotted rug, which they named "Ambar-Zameen," meaning "Sky on the Ground." Their loom is situated outside their home, allowing them to witness the transition of the sky from morning until evening when they stop weaving and go inside. When they received mostly blue wool and silk yarn, they thought of the sky as their inspiration. However, they wanted their manchaha to be unique. Geeta, who was one of the youngest, suggested the idea of bringing the sky to the ground, making the land turn blue. This different perspective sparked everyone's creativity, and they handcrafted the view of their village, where the sky has come down to the ground. The trees, roads, and everything around them turned blue, giving a bright appearance. They even weaved their traditional "Choolha" in blue, saying that the food will also look blue. This dynamic thought made them weave an extraordinary hand-knotted wool and silk rug, which they all cherished while weaving.
