The Design Story
mor ki chattaMor ki ChattaWhen Sangeeta, Vinita, and Tarawati received the yarns for their Manchaha, they felt a bit disheartened by the somewhat muted colors. They had hoped for vibrant yarns since they planned to weave peacock feathers into their rug. However, Sangeeta uplifted everyone's spirits by suggesting, “What if we use lighter colors? We can still create peacock feathers with these yarns, it will reflect our own unique effort.” With renewed enthusiasm, they began weaving the Manchaha. From the gentle rounds to the flowing curves, the rug's design reflects their affection for peacocks. They also incorporated long strands of grass from the fields where they often see peacocks dancing during the monsoon season. Working collaboratively, each weaver contributed to the design without overlapping, ensuring the patterns blended seamlessly. Upon finishing the rug, they decided to name it “Mor ki Chatta,” which translates to “Peacock’s Feathers.”
