The Design Story
khel mein jungKhel Mein JungKamlesh’s Manchaha rug draws inspiration from the main elements of cricket - the bat and ball, which she represents as equipment of cricket war. The weaver expertly hand-crafts the cricket bats, balls, and wickets in a beautiful arrangement using her wool and silk yarns, and then proceeds to envision the seating of the stadium, complete with cheering audience. The centre of the carpet features a striking depiction of two bats clashing with each other, symbolizing the intense competition between two opposing teams. Kamlesh has very smartly weaved four bats of different colors in a line, representing the different countries that will participate in the World Cup. The field where the war of cricket takes place is expertly depicted, with the whole country's attention focused on the game. Winning is a big deal for each country, and the players are expected to deliver their best performance. The audience is deeply involved in the game, and this hand-knotted carpet captures this essence of the sport. The creation is aptly named “Khel Mein Jung” (War in Play).
