The Design Story
teen gharTeen GharThree weavers, Panna Lal, Mukesh, and Navin, sat at the loom, side by side, each working their section. From the very beginning, they did not plan any fixed design to weave. On the right side of the rug, Panna Lal wove three homes together, sharing that one day all three friends would live side by side. Every day, they would think of something new to weave. Sometimes they started with simple zig-zag patterns, sometimes there were checkered boxes. There is a repetition of diamond motifs that they saw in a bedsheet. After many different design panels, they wove one unified line of flowers to end the rug on a good note. This rug is not one idea. It is many ideas meeting—held together by trust, by instinct, and by years of working together. With the home motif as the highlight, they named the rug ‘Teen Ghar,’ meaning (Three Homes).
