The Design Story
mahabharatMahabharatWhen asked about this Manchaha, the weaver does not describe motifs or meanings. She simply says, “This is Mahabharat.” The rug does not present scenes or characters. It is built from many intersecting sections, each carrying its own rhythm. Lines move in opposing directions, patterns begin and break, motifs repeat with variation. Nothing settles into a single order. Some areas feel dense and tightly worked; others open up and breathe. The eye is constantly led across crossings, pauses, and returns. No part claims dominance, yet all are bound together. Seen closely, the rug holds disagreement and coexistence at the same time. It suggests decisions layered over decisions, paths taken alongside paths denied. The structure is deliberate but unresolved. Perhaps this is what the weaver means. Not the Mahabharat of images, but of experience, where many truths exist together and where the story continues without a final answer. Like the Mahabharat itself, it resists a single reading, asking the viewer to pause, move closer, and engage.
