The Design Story
bhavandarBhavandarYahya had no sketch, no reference, only the loom, his imagination, and a desire to translate what cannot be spoken. The result is a work that feels simultaneously geological and deeply human, as if the rug is mapping the unseen topography of the mind. In Bhavandar (Tornado)—a word that evokes both “the depth within” and “the swirl of existence”—Yahya invites viewers into the quiet turbulence of the inner world. The rug unfolds like the cross-section of time itself: layered, rippling contours that resemble ancient earth strata, shifting winds, and the invisible currents of thought. Yahya, known for his exceptional sensitivity to form and rhythm, weaves these undulating lines with a meditative precision. Each band of color moves like a pulse—sometimes steady, sometimes wavering, echoing the emotional landscapes he has lived through. The central orbit, with its soft greens and muted blues, feels like an eye of calm at the center of life’s spiral, a place where clarity briefly surfaces amidst motion.
