The Design Story
ugta surajUgta SurajEvery Sunrise brings new hope in our lives and adds on to the beauty of simplicity. Realizing the importance of daylight in our day to day chaos, the artisans named their rug as “ Ugta Suraj”. Seema, Bimla, Gopi, and Sunita’s Manchaha, “Ugta Suraj” (Rising Sun) showcases her imagination about how the rays of the sun bring life to the colors of nature. When they received their colors for weaving their Manchaha they entered into a conversation where they highlighted how the colors of their yarns look bright and lively during the day however they do not hold the same liveliness and essence during the night. This became their inspiration to weave their rug. In one part of their rug they have showcased the liveliness of the colors during daylight and on the other half they have portrayed their appearance during night beautifully hand-knotted with precision. Using their brighter colors they have woven motifs inspired by kites, dolls, flowers, patterns of their sarees. After completing their rug, they were able to witness the difference between the two halves and how their hearts were automatically drawn more towards the brighter part of their rug. Their Manchaha is a medium of expressing gratitude for the rising sun that fills the world with life and color.
