The Design Story
anaarAnaarRampyari, Manju, and Mamta began their weaving journey during Diwali, the festival of lights. The three weavers, who are also neighbors, started working together and also got involved in festive preparations such as deep cleaning their homes, discussing the snacks they would prepare for everyone, and sharing recipes with one another. As soon as they opened the bundle of yarns, their eyes fell on all the vibrant colors and they hoarded them in their secret spots. The first thing they weaved on the rug was a string of diyas or oil lamps, a symbol of the advent of the festival and their most glittery “Anaar” fire crackers all over the rug. As they wove for a month, the Diwali festivities calmed down and their lives returned to normal. They realized that all of their colorful yarns had also come to an end and they felt sad at first, not wanting to continue. However, they were struck by the idea that the vibrancy of colors in crackers is visible in the darkness of night, but the same cracker seems colorless when lit in the daylight. They decided to depict the same cracker but in the depiction of daylight, and this incredible idea not only made the carpet look beautiful but opened up new dimensions of their creativity.
