The Design Story
dil ki baatDil ki BaatRoshni Devi did not begin this Manchaha with a clear plan. She first tried weaving larger motifs, something different from her usual way. But she didn’t enjoy it and kept thinking that she was not weaving her own style. She missed the detail. After some time, she returned to what feels natural to her. The rug slowly filled with her signature intricate patterns. She added shingala (fruit), butterflies, diamonds, trees, and flowers. The surface became dense again, and the rug started to feel right again. She has also woven many heart motifs throughout the rug. She said, “I did not have a map to follow, I just kept having love talks with the loom with freedom.” This shows her love for weaving Manchahas. On the top left corner of the rug, she whole different scene. Flowers are blooming, butterflies are flying, and there is a light blue shade showing soft rain. She says this is a view she loves a lot. She shared that this rug is about finding her own way again and falling in love with weaving. Upon finishing the rug, she named it ‘Dil ki Baat’, meaning ‘Talks of the Heart’.
