A Rug is more than just a piece of décor, it’s a piece of art that expresses your persona and the things you connect with. Whether modern, traditional, abstract, or classic, a rug puts across who you are as a person, giving your home a sense of belongingness. Understanding this, Jaipur Rugs produces the best quality Indian handmade rugs to bring that sense of belongingness and expression to your home. We at Jaipur rugs understand that such a personal piece of art is supposed to last for generations. Hence, we use the best quality material in our rugs so you can keep expressing yourself for a lifetime.

How do we make our rugs?

The quality of a rug depends on many factors, one of which is the production technique used in its making. Machine-made rugs are coarse and less durable. On the contrary, handmade rugs are generally more durable, comfortable, and of finer quality. Handmade rugs also take significantly more time and effort, as a weaver manually ties knot after knot until the rug is complete; hence, the design on a handmade rug is noticeably finer than a machine-made one. If taken care of properly, a high-quality handmade rug will last you a lifetime. Jaipur rugs bring you the best handmade rugs from India. Made with high-quality material using the best weaving techniques.

Hand-knotted

Adapted from Persia, hand weaving is a unique art, A rug is made by placing knot after knot one at a time, paying attention to each intricate detail. Making a rug through this form can take a minimum of two months, ranging up to a year, depending on the quality and size of the woven rug.

Hand tufted -

The artisan places A backing fabric on an iron frame, and the desired pattern is traced on it. The yarn is then pushed into the fabric with a little wooden contraption. The tufting gun hooks and pulls yarn through the backing to form loops or piles into the outlined areas. Once the hand-tufted carpet is completed and up to grade, a canvas backing is bonded to the rug. This protects the tufted yarn from shedding and gives a distinctly different look to the rug.

Hand-loomed –

Like handloom rugs, a carpet is woven on a loom by interlocking the vertical (warp) and horizontal (weft) threads. This method is easiest for monotone rugs and gives a printed finish to the carpet.

What goes into our rugs?

The material used in making the rug is also a big factor that affects the quality of a rug. Jaipur rugs use the highest quality material to make fine quality Indian Rugs. The material used in producing a rug affects the durability, comfort, ease of cleaning, design, and fineness of the rug. The material used also has a huge impact on the price of the rug. We use many different types of materials to make high-quality luxury rugs.

Wool –

The wool comes from sheep, alpacas, goats, or llamas. Most Jaipur Rugs’ wool is sourced from India, New Zealand, and worldwide. We at Jaipur Rugs make our own yarns from raw wool, which helps ensure the use of only high-quality yarn in making our wool rugs.

Silk – Silk is one of the finest materials. Used for detailing, It is considered as the fabric for royalty. Rugs made out of only silk are more expensive.

Bamboo Silk – Extracted from the bamboo plant, it’s considered a cost-effective substitute for silk. Bamboo silk has an extra sheen that can’t be found in Silk. It also possesses anti-microbial properties, making your home a healthy space.

Jute/Hemp – Used for making Dhurries or flatweave rugs with a rich texture, this is a perfect choice for outdoors or high-traffic areas.

Cotton – This most commonly used fabric is used in making cotton Dhurries rugs and kilims rugs. Being washable and easy to store makes it a good choice for inexpensive décor.

Knot Count

Knot Density is another factor that can also be used to judge the quality of a rug. Knot density means the number of knots tied in a given area. Generally, it is measured in ‘KPIS’, which stands for knots per square inch. It is believed that the more the number of knots in a square inch, the finer and more high-quality the rug is. Generally, any rug with a KPIS of 200 and above can be classified as fine-quality. Rugs having a KPSI of less than 80 are coarse rugs. Rugs with a higher knot count can have more complex and detailed designs.

Conclusion:

Just like how food tastes so much better when it’s made with passion and love, similarly, the quality of any product increases significantly when it’s produced with passion and love, and we at Jaipur Rugs have a wonderful community of weavers who make every single Rug with as much love and enthusiasm as the last one.
