Brahmand collection turns humankind’s ceaseless search for cosmic relevance and age-old questions of greater designs into thought-provoking visual art with an inventive line of luxurious hand-knotted carpets.

Our Brahmaand collection is a journey of visual dimension through gradients, textures, and handcrafted excellence. Inspired by a series of original watercolor paintings by designer Ashiesh Shah.

Through the enduring transient craft of rug weaving, the collection styles a never before seen concoction of celestial elements, history, and craftsmanship.

Brahmaand – The designer behind the collection

A craft revivalist and storyteller with a diverse designer portfolio spanning from boutique spaces to penthouses, Ashiesh Shah's aesthetics have made their way into several known celebrity residences. He has been leading his eponymous practice Ashiesh Shah Architecture + Design. His designs express his vision of space and material choices that correspond to his vocation as a tastemaker in the architectural world.

Ashiesh Shah’s work identifies a seamless semblance between art, architecture, and design. This is what we set out to create with the designer, through Brahmaand. The collection is our take on pushing the boundaries of art, thought, and design.

Brahmaand: The technique behind the rugs

Capturing the mysteries of starlit night skies through its gradients and textures, Bhramaand’s deep indigo-hued rugs draw inspiration from ancient Indian science and mysticism. Its unique primitive shapes and organic forms pay homage to the civilization’s larger-than-life past.

Our collaboration with Ashiesh Shah, and creating the Brahmaand hand-knotted rug collection, was much more than a meeting of the minds. We consider art as synonymous with self-expression, and this ethos resonates with all of our artisans; our katwaris, yarn dyers, weavers, gultarashs, and our zardosi embroiderers. The designs featured in the collection are completely organic, and the result of the meeting of the hearts between the artisans and the designer.

technique behind the branmand rugs collection

With the careful processes of picking, hand-carding, and the spinning of wool into fine yarn, it's meticulous weaving into rugs by skilled Indian artisans, and more than 18 finishing processes to ensure the highest quality, Bhramaand paints a picture of the infinite universe in living spaces.

The alluring charisma of the vast cosmos is beautifully illustrated in these designer hand-knotted rugs through intricate gultarashi. Finishing processes wherein the artisans sharpen the designs by carving and embossing them using scissors, gultarashi molds the rug pile like troughs and crests of space-time. The timeless motifs and constellations used in the designs are crafted with never-seen-before intricate zardosi embroidery.

Brahmaand: Handmade designer rugs for luxury savants

Brahmaand aims to revive India's carpet-weaving traditions while simultaneously empowering craftspeople. Brahmaand features four main single-edition rugs designed by Ashiesh Shah and sixteen manchaha rugs made as co-creations with Jaipur Rugs’ Manchaha designer-weavers. The main rugs: Dwaar, Chanda, Manthan, and Nakshatra are available in a total of six styles and can be made with or without zardosi embroidery.

Dwaar

Dwaar, a rug-based art installation for your homes from our Brahmand series, combines cosmic elements and impeccable artistry. Dwaar creates a creative portrayal of the limitless cosmos in living places, acting as a portal to another world.

Chanda:

Chanda, a homage to the moon's fleeting beauty and fluidity, captures the moon's phases in the bright night sky. Assimilating the same are the curving contours of the hand-knotted rugs by Ashiesh Shah, beautified with intricate zardozi embroidery!

Manthan

'Manthan', a hymn to the vast cosmos, is inspired by times of intense thought, cooperation, and creativity. You can also catch various elements inspired by “Jantar Mantar” in this hand-knotted beauty. The rug is available in two color variations - Indigo and beige!

Nakshatra

'Nakshatra', inspired by ancient Indian astronomy, architecture, and constellations, reveals a canopy of stars highlighted by sun signs, capturing the secrets of a starry night sky. 'Nakshatra' is a beautiful mix of numerous heavenly components that makes for a thought-provoking work. Indigo and beige are two color options for this hand-knotted carpet.

Brahmaand Manchaha Collection

The carpets from this segment inculcate the best of two worlds! Their design was inspired by a conversation between two designers, Ashiesh Shah and our Manchaha weavers. The folklore, traditions, and ancient concepts about celestial entities that are passed on as ancestral knowledge in our weaver's communities are turned into intricate symbols and decorations.

In some designs, it is men landing on the moon using missiles and airplanes and making huts and settlements on celestial bodies in the outer space, while in others weaver women fantasize that the crescent moon is a hammock hanging in the outer space. In the Freedom Manchaha ‘Chaand Ke Uss Paar’, woven from jail in Rajasthan, Amarchand weaves his deep wish to have his own happy-ever-after once his prison sentence, and in ‘Nau Graha’, weaver Dhafali shows her deep fascination with the night sky during her midnight walks.
