The Design Story
chunariChunariRavi found the inspiration for this Manchaha in his wife's “Chunari” (shawl-like scarf). He was fascinated by its colourful patterns, traditional motifs, and the way every small detail came together to create one beautiful piece of fabric. Wanting to capture the same richness, he translated those memories into a hand-knotted rug. The rug is filled with decorative diamond motifs, each carrying a different combination of colours and intricate patterns. Instead of repeating a single design throughout, Ravi gave each section its own identity, just as every part of a traditional chunari features a unique arrangement of motifs. Between the diamonds, he added fine borders, tiny geometric forms, and delicate details that make the composition feel lively and festive. Ravi enjoyed taking his time with this Manchaha, patiently filling every space with intricate work. The rug has no empty corners. For Ravi, this Manchaha is a celebration of everyday beauty. Inspired by something as familiar as his wife's chunari, he transformed a cherished memory into a vibrant composition full of colour, detail, and craftsmanship.
