The Design Story
yaadeinYaadeinLocked in a cage of life, Ashok Ji only has the memories to hold onto for warmth. Yaadein (Memories) is a canvas filled with Ashok Ji’s early life stories. Weaving is an escape for Ashok Ji as it allows him to forget all the negative aspects of his life. Through weaving, Ashok Ji discovered parts of himself he never knew existed. He shares that weaving helped him find himself and gave him a new purpose in life. Through Yaadien, he expressed how much he missed his village and the beauty of nature found there. He loved the mountains and the rivers flowing through them. He enjoyed lying under the sky and watching the birds flying. He missed these memories which are translated through the weaving of this rug. The cemented walls of the jail could only confine him physically but his imagination and thinking were still free and floating in the arms of nature, which is very evident by the designs he made on the rug.
