The Design Story
titliTitliOne moment you see it, and the next moment you don’t. Butterflies are smooth at escaping from our eyesight. Well, take a look at this carpet. One moment you see nothing, and the next moment you see butterflies! That said, Minro Devi’s Manchaha is called “Titli” which is a Hindi word for “Butterfly”. There are three big butterflies on the carpet. Each butterfly is filled with various designs. She has weaved “lehereiya” (wavy designs) as monsoons were in the run. There are boxes, lines, circles, and other shapes filled into each wing. She has mostly used light-colored yarns. She enjoyed the process as she got to play with the patterns and still maintain the outer structure of a butterfly. Only the carpet as a whole gives us a picture of the butterflies and it takes a good observer to notice them and an artist to appreciate them.
