The Design Story
jagmag odhaniJagmag OdhaniThis Manchaha was woven by Asha Devi, who is an extremely hard-working artisan. When she sat on the loom to start weaving this carpet, she was wearing a dupatta (drape) with the famous ‘leheriya’ (wavy) patterns. The rug drew inspiration from this drape. A railway-track pattern runs through the rug as well. For Asha Devi, weaving is directly tied to survival and dignity. As she says, “Hard work puts food on your plate. Without hard work, there is no food.” The rug carries this belief—steady, layered, and honest—woven into every row. Upon finishing the carpet, she named it ‘Jagmag Odhani,’ which translates to ‘Sparkling Drape.’
