The Design Story
geruaGeruaThis Manchaha was planned from the very beginning around one colour — Geru, the deep terracotta of Rajasthan’s soil. The sisters' trio, Guddi, Suman, and Sonia, decided on all the vibrant colours at the start so they could use the main colour with freedom later on. They mixed their yarns carefully, strand by strand, to build depth inside the red-brown tones. They are masters at blending yarns, and here that skill shows clearly. The lower half is dense, while the upper half is intricate, which opens into wide horizontal bands, like land stretching far ahead. The texture created by the blending of the yarns and intricate weaving style carries the story as much as the pattern. While weaving, they love listening to songs. They even have fixed places at the loom. No one changes seats. One day, as the song “Gerua” played, they smiled. The colour, the mood, the warmth, everything matched. The name was decided right there. This rug is their tribute to Geru — to soil, to song, and to the comfort of working together in perfect rhythm.
