The Design Story
sayaSayaLalita Devi is a weaver who always works alone. She expresses gratitude for the expansive canvas that allows her to weave all the ideas that come to her. To give room to all the patterns she dreams up, she often divides the carpet into two sections. In this Manchaha, she’s played with both bold and delicate designs. Her diamonds, stripes, and zig-zag lines stand out immediately. Yet, what goes unnoticed is her skillful blending of yarns, which creates a captivating light and shadow effect in the carpet, highlighting her expertise and dedication. This rug subtly speaks of her effort, skill, and deep connection with her art. She says that the colours of the carpet gave peace to her eyes like standing in the shade. So, upon completion of the carpet, she named it “Saya,” meaning “Shadow.”
