The Design Story
shehedShehedOne day, outside their village home, Roodmal and Patashi, master weavers and a husband-wife team, noticed a honeycomb being built. That moment became the inspiration for this Manchaha. Their design language is rooted in creating abstract sections across a rug, and here, too, they divided the surface into multiple panels, each carrying its own pattern. Some sections draw directly from the honeycomb’s geometry; others resemble bowls and vessels used to collect honey. At the top, they wove three diamond-shaped motifs to represent the hive itself. When the rug was finished, they stepped back and realised how the entire piece glowed in warm shades of brown—almost like honey spread across the loom. Laughing, Roodmal said the rug felt “too sweet.” And so they named it “Shehed,” meaning “Honey.”
