Originating around 1980, a traditional floral design unfolds across a Persian runner, characterized by an intricate all-over pattern set against deep navy blue and rich red grounds. This detailed field incorporates highlights of green and is distinguished by a captivating shrub design, where depictions of lush foliage and fine natural details evoke a sense of timeless elegance. Vibrant accents of mandarin orange and contrasting white further enliven the composition. Enclosing this central field, a set of borders displays twined geometrical patterns skillfully intertwined with floral motifs, all rendered in bright, eye-catching colours. Measuring approximately 5 feet by 12 feet 6 inches, its desirable elongated runner format makes it perfect for corridors or longer spaces. The overall effect, rich in detail and colour harmony, establishes this piece as a cherished textile meant to be treasured for generations.
City Story
Bakhtiari tribe rugs from southwestern Iran are hand-knotted and vividly convey diverse narratives. Iconic designs include the Khesti (garden panel) with compartmentalized nature motifs, and medallion-with-corner layouts. Other symbolic patterns like Tree of Life, vase, geometric, and Herati (fish) motifs represent themes of eternity, abundance, interconnectedness, ancestral heritage, and good fortune. These rugs feature a durable wool pile, typically on a cotton foundation, and are made with the Turkish knot, ensuring strength and hard-wearing quality. Their weaving techniques reflect both nomadic and settled traditions.
