The Design Story
karaj (c.1960)A Red and Natural Brown runner, hand-knotted in Karaj, Persia around 1960, presents a long and narrow size of 3x11 feet. The field design features a series of three geometric medallions aligned along the length of the red field. These medallions are filled with bold, angular motifs in contrasting natural brown and other colors. The field motifs consist of repeating geometric shapes, stylized animal figures, and symbolic patterns characteristic of tribal weavings. The borders feature a series of geometric patterns and stylized motifs that provide a distinct and characteristic frame to the central design.
