The Design Story
pankh aur pahaadPankh Aur PahaadPrem Devi lives in the mountains, and that is where her ideas begin. In this rug, she has woven different mountain forms and their surfaces. Some feel rough, some softer, like the land changing with light and weather. In the middle, there is a blue wing. She says she once saw a blue butterfly and kept thinking about it. What stayed with her was not just the colour, but the patterns on its wings. That memory found its way into the rug. From there, she began experimenting. You can see different wing-like forms across the surface, each one slightly different. They don’t follow one pattern, but feel like variations of the same thought. Alongside these, she has added plants, flowers, and water pots—small parts of what she sees around her every day. The rug feels like a collection of moments. Things she has seen, noticed, and held on to, all coming together in one place. She named the rug ‘Pankh Aur Pahaad’ (Wings and Mountains) in the end.
